Most of the knives in this range pair a colored or natural handle with a standard brown leather sheath. This one doesn’t — a grey, black, and gold resin handle with brass guard and spacers, carried in a black leather sheath instead of the usual brown. It’s a small detail, but it changes the whole look of the piece from “handle plus accessory” to something that reads as one cohesive design.

The Blade

An 8.5-inch skinner with a 4.25-inch Damascus blade, hand-forged from 1095 and 15N20 steel into a twist pattern and hardened to 58-60 HRC. Same real hardness range as the rest of HM Knives’ functional pieces — this is a working skinner, not a display-only blade that happens to look sharp.

Built for Regular Use

At 180 grams with a half-tang construction, it’s genuinely usable rather than a shelf piece. The sheath itself is built with belt space for real carry, not just storage — and since it matches the handle rather than contrasting with it, it doesn’t stand out as an obvious add-on when worn.

Handmade to Order

Every knife ships with its matching black leather sheath and is made to order, typically 5-7 business days before it leaves the shop. Because the blade pattern and handle are hand-finished, minor variation between pieces is normal. See the rest of our handmade damascus skinner knives if a different handle color or sheath pairing suits you better.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the sheath matter if most people just clip it to a belt anyway? A mismatched sheath is fine functionally, but a matched black handle and sheath reads as a deliberately designed piece rather than a knife with whatever sheath happened to be on hand — worth it if the look matters to you as much as the function.

Does “resin handle” mean it’s less durable than bone or horn? No — resin is a stable, weather-resistant material that doesn’t require the same care natural materials do (no risk of drying out or cracking from moisture exposure the way bone can).

Is the grey/black/gold color combination consistent across every knife, or does it vary? Since the handle is hand-finished, expect minor natural variation in exact tone and pattern placement between individual pieces — that’s part of buying something handmade rather than mass-produced.

Is this knife full tang or half tang? Half tang — standard construction for a knife this size and price point.
